The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE of the Govt. of India. Regarded as one of the most competitive examinations of the nation, GATE primarily tests the candidate’s comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science.
The GATE score of a candidate gives an indication of the relative performance level of a candidate. This score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs in various Engineering institutes, with scholarships and other financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and other government agencies. In recent times, GATE scores are also being used by several PSUs for recruiting graduate engineers in various positions. This year’s GATE result, i.e. GATE 2014 Result is to be announced on 28th March 2014.
After the declaration of the results, Score Cards will be issued (mailed to the Correspondence address given in the application) to (a) All SC/ST/PwD candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying mark of SC/ST/PwD candidates in their respective papers, and (b) All other candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying mark of OBC candidates in their respective papers. There is no provision for the issue of additional GATE Score Cards.
The Answers of the candidates will be evaluated to obtain the raw scores. These raw scores will be converted to a normalized score on the basis of the formula given below.
The GATE 2014 Score of a candidate is computed from the following formula:
S=Sq + (St-Sq).(M - Mq) / (Mt - Mq)
| Symbol | Denoting |
| S | GATE 2014 Score (normalized) of a candidate, |
| M | Marks obtained by a candidate in a paper, |
| Mq | Qualifying Marks for general category candidates in the paper, |
| Mt | Average Marks of top 0.1% or 10 of the candidates (whichever is higher) who appeared in the paper, |
| St | GATE 2014 Score assigned to Mt, |
| Sq | GATE 2014 Score assigned to Mq |
Note: Mq is usually 25 marks out of 100 or ?+?, whichever is larger. The symbol ? is the mean and ? is the standard deviation of marks of all the candidates who appeared in that particular paper.
